DNS and BIND (5th Edition)
by Cricket Liu, Paul Albitz
Amazon Price: $31.49
Customer Review: This book is a good in-depth resource for anyone who wants a very comprehensive understanding of DNS hosting and troubleshooting. You can use it as a reference, reading sections as you need them, or read it cover to cover. I've opted for the former and am about half-way through. So, far I've read about things I've never been able to find good information for on the web. Keep up the good work!

The TCP/IP Guide: A Comprehensive, Illustrated Internet Protocols Reference
by Charles Kozierok
Amazon Price: $49.47
Customer Review: I bought this book straight from the author two years ago. I has been invaluable to me but then again, I'm pursuing a masters in Information Assurance and before that undergraduate Computer and Information Science. For pros already in the soup, maybe a quick guide would be preferred but I needed to learn everything from scratch (online at that). I also have the Stevens "Bible" but this one goes...

Linux Device Drivers, 3rd Edition
by Jonathan Corbet, Alessandro Rubini, Greg Kroah-Hartman
Amazon Price: $26.37
Customer Review: This books must be the top priority for ever developer who wants to develop emebedded systems, based on Linux OS.

Active Directory Cookbook, 2nd Edition
by Robbie Allen, Laura Hunter
Amazon Price: $29.99
Customer Review: Firstly a warning, this is the second edition and covers Windows 2003. There is a third edition that covers the newer OS. I bought this book by mistake and it's too big (postage would be too expensive) to return. So buy with care.

This is a big book in terms of pages but the content is less than stellar. Don't expect to find too much on designing AD in real world situations such as in...

LDAP System Administration
by Gerald Carter
Amazon Price: $23.97
Customer Review: Although it spends a lot of time talking about OpenLDAP, the version is covers is outdated. I would also have hoped to find more information about how to choose which schema's. The email section does not mention the different attempts at standardizing a schema.

Active Directory, 3rd Edition
by Joe Richards, Robbie Allen, Alistair Lowe-Norris
Amazon Price: $29.99
Customer Review: Great book discussing all sorts of AD related features you may not use every day. I read this one cover to cover and I continue to reference it at least once or twice a week. I've owned each edition and each one has been better than the previous. Very up to date! Waiting for 4th edition with all the 2008 stuff to come out now.

DNS on Windows Server 2003
by Cricket Liu, Matt Larson, Robbie Allen
Amazon Price: $29.55
Customer Review: This book gets very indepth about DNS. It's dry and very technical making it a hard and boring read. I don't recommend this book for the newbie. You really should have some general knowledge about the subject before buying this book.

The explanations throughout the book are difficult to follow and can be confusing. It could of been better written with a simplified approach.

DNS for Dummies
by Blair Rampling, David Dalan
Amazon Price: $16.49
Customer Review: I have read a few in the "Dummies" series and found them to be very good, but not as high level as the titles would suggest. This book is, however, very high level. It is very basic. If you know nothing about DNS, this is the book for you. If you have a basic understanding of DNS, then I would not recommend this book.

Pro DNS and BIND (Pro)
by Ron Aitchison
Amazon Price: $31.07
Customer Review: This is by far the best book available on DNS. It is very informative and yet the reading style is entertaining (not fluffy though). Overall, it is a joy to read. The author is able to communicate effectively to both the expert and the novice. Look no further than here for a great DNS reference book. Way to go Ron Aitchison!

DNS & BIND Cookbook
by Cricket Liu
Amazon Price: $23.07
Customer Review: This is one of those books for people what play around with webservers and DNS. There are more uptodate books now so only worth getting second hand.
It explains the topics in a very accessible way for anyone taking on the sys admin/network admin role.

Many Web Hosting companies will also register your domain for you, and may well offer free registration when you take out a web-hosting package. Another services to look out for is domain privacy, where your personal details are withheld from public view.

Domain registration prices vary quite widely, so it is important to look at several domain registration companies to get the best buy. It is also important to realize that many companies will be offering special offers on new registrations, so remember to check the cost of subsequent renewals, as this might be considerably higher.

If you are not ready to set your web site up immediately, most registrars will offer a domain parking service.
